Turn Off Technology and Let Gardening Usher in Peace and Calm
Now more than ever, wherever you go, you’ll see the tops of people’s heads rather than their eyes. Technology is such a part of our lives that it’s rare that you see anyone without it.
There are people connecting with earbuds in their ears, tuned into music, videos and social media rather than other people. In our homes, we have laptops, tablets, television and more technology that removes us from participating physically in life and keeps us hooked up to technology like a never ending IV drip.
It’s no wonder that people are short-tempered, frazzles, in a rush and filled with stress. When you’re always connected with technology, there’s no down time. No time to stop and refill the well of relaxation.
It’s why so many people are burning out. You can’t run with technology all of those hours and not end up feeling the effects of it. When you’re always focusing, always having to direct your attention toward something, you can experience what’s known as focus exhaustion.
That’s why you need to unplug and reconnect. Not only with other people but with nature. When you’re in nature, you get your sense of balance restored. You find once again that the world is not limited to what you see on a screen.
There’s a way that you can disconnect from technology and find peace and calm in your life once again. The best way to do that is by starting your own garden. There are so many ways that you can do this.
You can have a garden outside in your backyard. You can have one indoor or one on the patio. You can get involved with raised bed gardening or container gardening.
You can incorporate colors into your garden like green or blue that are known to be soothing. You can also add a trickling water source. The sound of water in a garden can be a helpful addition to any garden that also helps you experience peace and calmness.
Whatever type of gardening you choose, the results will be the same – a life that feels calmer, because it is. You’ll be able to focus more and you’ll reap other health benefits like a boost in your vitamin D level, which will help boost your bone health and immune system.
What you plant in your garden can be helpful toward stress relief, too. You can add plants that have fragrances that are known to help with relaxation such as lavender.
Once you unplug, and get involved in gardening you’ll discover that you’ve found a natural stress reliever and mood booster. Plus, it’s a great way to experience fresh air, sunshine and engage in low impact exercise that’s good for your body and your mind.
